Cubs

Cubs

Cubs are the youngest members of 7th Donnybrook Scouts. Cubs join aged 9 and are Cubs until age 11 when they move on to Scouts. Cubs are taken in as first preference into scouts, skipping all those on the waiting list.

The Cub Pack is split into ‘sixes’ – groups of approximately 6 Cubs who do activities and learn together. The sixes are mixed ages so that the older Cubs help and guide the younger, newer ones.  Each Six has a Sixer (the leader) and a Seconder (the second in charge). At the start of the Cub year, each Six choose an animal to represent their Six and they are given a colour.

Cubs meet at 19:00 on Monday evenings. We usually start with an active game, then progress into fun-based learning, spend some time in the Sixes and finish up at 20:30 with another game. When the evenings are fine we spend some time outdoors either in the grounds of St Mary’s or in nearby Herbert Park.  Once a month we do some sort of outdoor activity – a hike, backwoods cooking, youth hosteling and camping in the warmer months.  Cubs are very involved in programme creation and decide broadly what activities they do.  Following each activity we review how it went – the positives and the negatives.  Cubs is great fun, we’d love to have you join!

The leader team is:

Claire Wheeler, Conor O’Leary, and Ruth Hunter.
